Who we are: Gerardo Reyes Copello
Gerardo is the head of investigations at Univision Network. Previously, he was in charge of covering Latin America for El Nuevo Herald of Miami. Gerardo specializes in pursuing regional corruption cases with US ramifications, and writing about drug trafficking and money laundering.
He was a member of The Miami Herald team that won the Pulitzer Prize for the best investigation in 1999. In 2004 Columbia University, New York, awarded him with the prestigious Maria Moors Cabot international journalism prize.
He is the author of Periodismo Investigación, a manual on investigative journalism, and Don Julio Mario, an unauthorized biography of Colombian businessman Julio Mario Santo Domingo. In 2007 he published Nuestro Hombre en la DEA (Our Man at the DEA), which won the Premio Planeta de Periodismo (Planeta Journalism Award) in Colombia. His features about Florida were published in the book Made in Miami. He is co-author and editor of the book Los dueños de América Latina (Latin America’s Owners), profiling the richest and most influential men in the region.
Gerardo is an expert in Internet databases for journalists, a subject on which he has given lectures and workshops in the United States, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil and Spain.
He was editorial advisor of the magazines Semana (Colombia), Poder and Gatopardo.
